I have been part of this BJJ family a long time now. I was concerned that coming in as a female I would be treated with kid gloves and not get as much out of it as some of my male counter parts. Not the case. I feel like everyone comes in unsure but you leave knowing your strengths. It doesn’t matter what your body type, what your gender, I never feel like I don’t learn and improve. I started this in my 40s, but have always been very active, this has proven to me I can always take on more. I’ve never been stronger in my life. I’ve learned patience, because that can often win over strength. MMA or BJJ is not for everyone. I’ve had my share of bumps and bruises, and handed a few out unintentionally, but if you are willing to humble yourself, be tired, be challenged, but still want more, this sport and this place is for you.
